Superintendent's Welcome

Welcome to Montevideo Public Schools where we strive to be known as the district who puts Student First in all that we do.

To accomplish this we are consistently looking at our programs, operations, and results to ensure we are providing an exemplary education that aligns with our vision.

What is an exemplary education?  At Montevideo Public Schools we believe an exemplary education is one that:

  • Achieves desired results

  • Challenges all learners to accomplish their individual best

  • Excels in relationship building

  • Helps learners to discover their passions

  • Has diverse learning opportunities

  • Creates a sense of belonging for all learners

  • Builds Thunder Hawk pride throughout our community

  • Utilizes research-based practices that consistently produce desired results

  • Embraces and utilizes community partnerships to create high quality learning experiences

  • Has excellent educators guiding high quality learning experiences

  • Is rooted in data-based decision making at the district level, building level, and in the classroom

  • Encourages volunteerism as a social responsibility

Our growing district of more than 1,400 students in grades PreK-12th are served in five locations; The Hawks Nest Early Childhood Center, Ramsey and Sanford Elementaries, Montevideo Middle School and Montevideo High School.  These buildings are home to more than 300 extraordinary educators whose purpose for coming to work each day is to help students achieve their dreams.  In our district we focus on six priorities:

  • High Student Achievement

  • Safe, Efficient, and Appropriate facilities for our staff and students

  • Innovation in Education

  • Fiscal Responsibility

  • School and Community Connections

  • Having Outstanding Employees

By focusing on these six priorities we believe that all children can be provided an exemplary education that allows them to be happy and successful in life.

I am proud to be a Thunder Hawk, and I encourage you to come see what being a Thunder Hawk is all about; I believe you will agree that it is, “A Great Day to be a Thunder Hawk!”
