Montevideo High School hosted their 7th annual Career Fair on Monday, November 3rd. It was the largest career fair yet with 28 local businesses represented and over a dozen post-secondary and military exhibitors. Attending the event this year were 271 ninth through twelfth grade students and 124 parents. CAVCO Montevideo, J&D Construction and Minnwest Bank were the featured partners this year whose donations allowed the event to offer a free meal, catered by Plazita Restaurant, to all attendees. The meal not only eases the stress of already busy family schedules, but instills an important sense of community.
In 2018, the high school Career and Technical Education teachers started the career fair with the purpose of exposing our students to local career opportunities. Only missing the year 2020, the event has been held each year with the same purpose. By attending this event, students can discover new careers they didn’t know exist and understand the local opportunities available to them. While visiting exhibitor booths, students are gaining direct access to industry professionals, building vital networks as well as practicing essential employment skills. This type of exposure is important for students to clarify their future path. It helps them connect school to careers and the requirements needed for employment. We appreciate all of our exhibitors who can attend to offer our students these opportunities.
