Patriot's Pen Essay Winners

MMS Grade 6 English students had the chance to join a Patriot's Pen essay contest which is sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary for grades 5-12. It is a national contest, therefore, winners at our local level go on to regional and if they win there, student essays go to state and then can go on to the national level.

Pam Berends, the local VFW Ladies Auxiliary president, and MMS Grade 6 English teacher, Melita Hildahl, have worked together for 14 years allowing students to enter the contest. ALL sixth-graders write an essay in 6th-grade English on the current theme. The contest is optional to enter. Students interview family members, both military and nonmilitary, on whatever the theme is for the year. This year's theme was: 🇱🇷How are you inspired by America? 🇱🇷

2024 Winners
