Summer Nutrition Program for Kids

Minnesota's SUN Food Service Program provided free, nutritious food to children (ages 18 and under) during summer break when school meals are unavailable.

The program includes SUN Bucks ($120/child for groceries) and SUN Meals (free in-person, healthy meals at schools/parks), administered by the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families.

1. SUN Bucks (Summer EBT)

What it is: A $120 total benefit ($40 per month) provided on a pre-loaded card to purchase groceries.

Eligibility: Children ages 7-17 who participate in MFIP, SNAP, TANF, FDPIR, or school-approved free/reduced-price meals.

How to get it: Many families are automatically enrolled. Cards are mailed from late May through September.

Usage: Benefits are accedpted at grocery stores, farmers' markets, and retailers who accept EBT.

2. SUN Meals (Summer Food Service Program - SFSP)

What it is: Free in-person breakfast, lunch, or snacks for kids aged 18 and under at approved sites (schools, libraries, parks).

Closed Friday, June 19 & Friday, July 3.
Times:
Breakfast 7:30-9:00 a.m.
Lunch 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
