I Love to Read Month

The entire month of February is dedicated to promote a love of reading and being read to!  What can you do in your home to promote reading this month?

  • Ask your child what their favorite book is.
  • Read what interests your child.
  • Increase the time you spend reading at home this month.
  • Find a regular time of day when you can dedicate reading into your day.
  • Read together.
  • Have fun while reading - read with expression, act out the story or use props that go along with the story.
  • Change your setting - read in different places in your home or in a dark room with a flashlight.  Get comfy!
  • Take a trip to the library.

The benefits of reading together with your child go far beyond literacy.  By reading to your child starting at a young age, even before they're able to communicate verbally, you help lay the neurological groundwork for effective language use and literacy.

  • Language development
  • Empathy and emotional awareness
  • The parent-child bond
