Winter Recess & Weather Policy
To ensure our students balance the benefits of physical activity with safety, the Montevideo School District holds outdoor recess daily unless the wind chill (feels like temp) reaches -10°F or colder. This is the guideline used throughout the district, and is not new. We monitor weather conditions closely using the National Weather Service throughout the day to make informed decisions for our students.
Essential Gear & Preparation
As we enter the colder months, please ensure your child comes to school prepared for the snow and cold. To help us keep everyone safe and warm:
Daily Gear: Please send your child with appropriate winter clothing (heavy coat, hat, gloves, and boots) every day.
Label Everything: We highly recommend labeling all items with your child’s name to prevent lost gear.
Support & Resources: If your child is missing gear on a specific day, we maintain a "borrow station" at the school with extra winter clothing.
Need assistance? If you need help obtaining permanent winter items for your child, please reach out to the school office. We are here to help!
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students warm, safe, and ready to play.
