A little about Nick...
While I am new to the Montevideo Public School District, I am not new to Montevideo. I have lived here for the last seven years with my wife Emily. Originally from Nebraska, I graduated from Gretna High School and earned my bachelor's in Elementary Education from the University of South Dakota. I taught for three years in Valentine, Nebraska, as a fourth-grade teacher, while working on my Master's in Special Education at the University of Nebraska-Kearney. For the last seven years, I have taught in Special Education here in Minnesota. Since moving to Minnesota, I obtained my K-12 Educational Leadership Specialist Degree.
My wife and I have four kids, and as a family, we enjoy traveling and exploring new places. This picture is from our 10-day summer road trip to Northern Minnesota, Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Chicago, Illinois. I am super excited to join the Thunder Hawks team!

A little about Brandon...
While I have had the privilege of coaching baseball in the district for the past 14 years, I am honored to step into a new leadership role as the Director of Teaching and Learning for Montevideo Public Schools. Following 15 years as the Assistant Director of the Minnesota River Valley Education District (MRVED), I am thrilled to transition into this position. I look forward to collaborating closely with Montevideo’s exceptional instructional staff to support our educators and directly enhance student achievement across our community.
Montevideo has been home to our family for the past 15 years. My wife, Katie, a 2001 graduate of Montevideo High School, serves as the Program Processing and Compliance Specialist for MRVED. We are the proud parents of three children. Adelyn, who is a recent graduate of Montevideo will be attending Minnesota State University in Moorhead where she will be exploring the field of exercise science as a physical or occupational therapist. Gretta will be an 8th grader and is active in volleyball, basketball, track, and band. Eli will be a 4th grader and enjoys all things sports.
In addition to my administrative duties, I am entering my fourth year on the coaching staff for the boys' basketball team, having recently concluded a 14-year tenure as the junior varsity baseball coach. Outside of school and athletics, our family enjoys spending time at Lake Villard, attending local sporting events, and catching Savannah Bananas baseball games whenever possible.
I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and look forward to officially serving our schools as a full-fledged Thunder Hawk!

MES Classroom Spotlight: Mrs. Kleindl's 1st Grade Class
Mrs Kleindl’s first graders have had a busy spring so far.
-We are learning about silent letters in UFLI and The Early American Civilizations in Amplify.
-We have been working hard finishing the story and illustrations for our class book, The Lost Bunny, and will be getting it published. It is amazing to be a part of the whole writing process and see it all come together.
-We just received Painted Lady caterpillars and are learning about and observing the life cycle of a butterfly. We are all looking forward to releasing the butterflies at the end of May.

MES Classroom Spotlight: Ms. Ashling's Kindergarten Class
Ms. Ashling‘s Kindergarteners are excited about plants! As the spring temperatures get warmer, we are waiting for our grass and zinnia sprouts to pop through the soil. We are also watching the growing process happen with our bean seeds. We put them in plastic baggies so we could see each step. Some roots have grown out of the shells already. Our discussions, projects, and writing assignments have been focusing on the parts of a plant, what makes them living, what they need and how we use them.
