Referendum Information
Project Overview
The referendum allows the district to design and construct facility improvements across the district.
A Performing Arts Center addition on the west end of the high school that will support band, choir, and theater performances, including rehearsal spaces, practice rooms, a green room, set construction/storage spaces, and prop storage rooms. Unless current proposed legislation is approved, this space will also be designated as the school’s storm shelter to meet building code requirements.
Security enhancements at the two elementary schools, middle school, and high school.
A new weight room to address size, access, and functionality challenges.
Renovations at the high school to address:
deteriorating plumbing
outdated science labs,
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance
undersized and outdated learning spaces
outdated library/media center
undersized cafeteria spaces
outdated home economics/FACS classroom.

Site Plans

Sanford Elementary School
1. Relocate the main school entrance for enhanced security by routing visitors through the main office
2. Renovate current offices to create classrooms and special education spaces
3. Renovate staff workrooms and bathrooms

Ramsey Elementary School
4. Secure entry enhancements through renovation of two current special education classrooms and the adjacent vestibule into the main office with secure entrance
5. Current office to be renovated into special education classrooms
6. Additional renovation to create a staff work room with unisex toilet rooms

Montevideo Middle School
7. Relocate the main school entrance for enhanced security by routing visitors through the main office
8. A canopy structure will enhance the main entrance of the middle school and provide weather protection for students at arrival and dismissal

Montevideo High School
1. Renovate student bathrooms to address significant plumbing challenges as well as ADA needs
2. Relocate the main school entrance for enhanced security by routing visitors through the main office
3. Renovate office to support secure entrance
4. Renovate to create larger cafeteria/kitchen to support fewer lunch periods and a new family and consumer science classroom/lab
5. Renovate gym lobby to provide ADA compliant seating
6. Weight/fitness center addition to support physical education classes and athletics
7. Renovation of science labs to address failed plumbing and gas infrastructure as well as to update layout to support current teaching needs
8. Addition of a new performing arts center with adjacent band and choir rooms. Addition also includes room for storage of sets and equipment
9. Addition includes a code-required storm shelter for student and staff safety
10. Locker room renovations to address significant plumbing needs
