School Calendar Reminder: School is closed today in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. No Summer Food Service and no Summer School.

Last weekend, 25 of our Thunder Hawks Clay Target Team competed in the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League State Trap Shooting Tournament. The weather was a little different than last year. In 2024 the temperature was around 96 degrees. In 2025 we started the day at 53 degrees and overcast with little to no wind. Our kids all shot well and our team finished in 1st place for the day in the Novice division. Anya Burmeister also took 1st place in the Novice division shooting 80/100. Iver Heinrich led the males in the same division with a 81/100 finishing in 3rd place. In the Junior Varsity division Brayden Stone led our team with a 90/100 and on the girls side Destiny Rittel shot a 77/100. Varsity was led by Ethan Andresen who shot a 90/100. Our team didn’t have any girls shooting varsity this year. The divisions are determined by your season average over 5 weeks. Job well done to all the students who participated! Ethan Andresen and Jackson Viessman will also be competing at the State Skeet Tournament which will be held on Tuesday, June 24th. Twenty-five (25) students from our Montevideo High School Clay Target Team will compete at the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League State Trap Shooting Tournament on Saturday, June 14th in Alexandria, Minnesota. Montevideo competes in Class 6A and will begin shooting Round 1 at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Good luck to all of our state tournament participants! Go Hawks! Montevideo High School is proud to announce the 2025 scholarship recipients. These incredible seniors wrote essays, filled out applications, some were required to created resumes, and provided letters of recommendation. This program would not be in existence without our dedicated donors and community members. Sixty seniors have been awarded over $175,000 in scholarships this year. Congratulations to all! 🌟Staff Spotlight!🌟 Meet Kati Birhanzl, Career Coordinator at Montevideo High School. Hello! My name is Kati. I grew up just outside of Montevideo, very near where we live now. I am a MHS Alumni, Class of 2000. I really enjoy building partnerships with our school and the community. I am passionate about helping students be exposed to many different career pathways. My hobbies are reading and volunteering. My husband Travis and I have 4 kids: Emmary, Kory, Tenley and Kashen. Two are in the high school, one in middle school and one at Ramsey. Travis is a Farm Business Manager, farmer, raises hogs among other roles related to Ag. We enjoy following our kids in their activities; Cross County, Basketball, Dance Team, Horse Riding, Softball and Wrestling. In the summer, we are busy with 4-H projects, more softball and horse riding, and being outside. My previous experience is in Human Resources and youth development programs. This is my 6th year in my role as Career Coordinator at the high school, and I enjoy getting to go to school each day! We are so proud to have Kati on our team! #HawkPride #StaffSpotlight

Congratulations to our Montevideo Thunder Hawks Boys Basketball team! Thunder Hawk Athletics is excited to share that Kyle Goslee, Phy. Ed. teacher at Sanford Elementary School, has joined the athletic trainer team in partnership with CCM Health & Big Stone Therapies! We are excited that Kyle will be helping student athletes, and he will be available to our athletes either here at the high school or on the sideline of many events!

Montevideo Public Schools Families & Thunder Hawk Nation: It's been an exciting start to the week with our boys' basketball team competing in the State Basketball Tournament! They played a hard-fought game last night at 8:00 p.m. and will play again tonight at 8:00 p.m. IF THE TEAM WINS TONIGHT, they will play again on Thursday at noon. To allow students, staff, and the community to attend and support our team in the State Tournament at Concordia University, there will be no school on Thursday for PreK-12th grade. Childcare and Junior Thunder Hawks will remain open. IF THE TEAM DOES NOT WIN TONIGHT, school will be in session as usual on Thursday. We wanted to share this information with you in advance so you can plan accordingly. GO HAWKS! 🌟Staff Spotlight!🌟 Meet Karla Buseman, Paraprofessional at Montevideo High School. Hello! My name is Karla Buseman. I have been a paraprofessional for 22 years with the school district. My family consists of my husband, Joe, two sons and their wives and three grandchildren, ( Zachery, Courtney, Brynlee and Trever, Allysan, Karsan, Lylah). I enjoy new adventures and traveling with my family. I also enjoy being at the lake, watching my grandkids fish, reading in the sun and relaxing with family.
