Due to the weather, Montevideo Public Schools will open two hours late today, Thursday, December 19. There will be no morning sessions of ECSE, Small World Preschool, or Community Ed activities. Thunder Hawk Care will open at the normal time.

🌟Staff Spotlight!🌟 Meet our Print Room Assistant for the school district, Chanda Norby! Hello! My name is Chanda Norby. I am a Montevideo graduate (Class of ‘94, the last of the Mohawks!). I work in the district’s print room and do printing for all six school buildings in the district. Along with my job in the print room, I also worked as a testing proctor for the NWEA's, MCA’s, and the ACT's for 9 years. I live on a farm outside of Milan with my husband of 25 years, Jason. We have three children, Cale (19), Jessa(17), and Ty (17). Outside of work I enjoy reading, traveling, spending time with my family, and cheering on my kids in their activities. Last week, Sanford students had the chance to take part in a fall coloring contest. Choosing just two winners from each grade was challenging, as all the entries were creative and neatly colored!

🌟Staff Spotlight!🌟 Meet Elizabeth, Title Interventionist at Sanford Elementary School! Hello, I am Elizabeth Geurtz. I joined Sanford Elementary School as a Title Interventionist in February of last year. I am originally from Montevideo and recently relocated from Spicer to be closer to my family and friends. Before my current role, I worked as a Lead Therapist at MN Autism Therapy Center. I am thrilled about this new phase in my personal and professional life. I have been married to my best friend, Bobby, for seven years, and we have two daughters, Margaret (13) and Opal (6). As a family, we enjoy spending quality time together watching movies, playing games, and preparing meals. We're proud to have Elizabeth on our team! #Hawk Pride #StaffSpotlight

A member of the community contacted Mrs. Haff’s classroom with a special request for the students to decorate winter hats, asking that the reason remain a surprise. After capturing photos of the decorated hats, she knitted matching creations for each student. The students were astonished by the beautiful pieces she crafted for them.

🌟Staff Spotlight!🌟 Next up in our staff spotlight is a familiar face in a new role! We are happy to welcome Sarah Jensen to her new position as our elementary school nurse! Hello! My name is Sarah Jensen. I'm super excited for my new role as the school nurse for both Ramsey and Sanford elementary schools! I have always felt that taking care of and helping others is my calling in life. For the last two years, I worked as a paraprofessional at Ramsey Elementary School. I really enjoyed getting to know the students and staff, helping in the classrooms, and I'm looking forward to another great year providing health services to our elementary students and staff. I have four children: Autumn (20), Bryer (16), Christopher (15), and Emma (8). We love spending time outdoors together, whether it's fishing, gardening, grilling or just enjoying a good fire with smores. In my spare time, I enjoy taking care of my indoor succulent garden and baking. We're proud to have Sarah on our team! #HawkPride
